Top 5 Ways to Maintain Skin Health in the Fall

As you make your way into the fall season, don’t leave your skin’s health behind! Slight modifications to your skin care regimen should take effect as the weather changes. We’ve compiled a list of our top five ways to keep up with your skin, ensuring you make a seamless transition into colder weather.

1. DON’T GIVE UP ON SUNSCREEN

With short days and colder weather ahead, it’s easy to underestimate the power of the sun’s ultraviolet rays. Even on cloudy days, we are at risk of sun damage. Do not eliminate sun protection from your daily routine. We recommend applying sunscreen at least every two hours, especially if you plan on being outside.

2. HYDRATION IS KEY

Just because the temperature is dropping outside, doesn’t mean your skin’s hydration should too! To protect your skin from getting a cracked and irritated feel, up your moisturizer. Hydration and exfoliation together will help you maintain a rejuvenated appearance.

3. EXFOLIATE, EXFOLIATE, EXFOLIATE!

Whether you’re stopping into the Spa for a Microdermabrasion or SilkPeel, or using products at home, exfoliating in the fall is essential. Most people are more prone to dry skin as the temperature outside decreases. Exfoliating your skin regularly will ensure that you don’t lose that radiant summertime glow! We recommend most clients exfoliate once every three days. If in doubt, ask an aesthetician to avoid over doing it.

4. TONE DOWN ON RETIN-A PRODUCTS

You may need to decrease your usage of Retin-A (or like products) from every night to every other night, as to not dry out your skin in colder weather.

5. FALL PRESENTS IDEAL CONDITIONS TO REDUCE PIGMENTATION

Noticing that your brown spots or Melasma has increased over the summer? Now is the time to recover from sun damage while you’re out of the sun! Fall is the perfect season to think about getting a Fraxel® laser procedure to reduce brown spots, red spots, and other hyperpigmentation.
